Digital series on Mahatma Gandhi's assassination (Source: Bombay Times)

The killing of Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most shocking events in the history of modern, independent India. Now, Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment, which has made impactful films like Baby, Airlift and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, is all set to make a multi-season original digital series on the subject for premium ondemand content platforms. The series is based on Manohar Malgaonkar's The Men Who Killed Gandhi, which promises a mostly unheard-of account of the planning, execution and the aftermath of the incident.
National Award-winning director Rajesh Mapuskar, who has also won two Filmfare Marathi Awards for Ventilator, will helm the series. Interestingly , it comes at a time when the killing of the Mahatma is in the news again, following a plea before the Supreme Court to reexamine the case.

Vikram, who is making the series in association with Cinetek, and co-producers Rajesh and Akashdeep Sabir, says, “The late Manohar Malgaonkar's book is a riveting account of the method and the madness behind the assassination that shook the world. We are excited to bring this story to the new generation. I am also delighted to collaborate with Rajesh, whose in-depth knowledge on the subject will be a great asset.“

On his part, Rajesh adds, “I got immersed in Bapu when I worked on Lage Raho Munna Bhai (he assisted director Rajkumar Hirani). Twelve years after that, Vikram came to me with the proposal to make a digital series on the assassination and I agreed instantly . I hope I can do justice to the project.“
